Here comes the new Owen Park Neighborhood Association

An official announcement will be mailed soon about formation of the Owen Park Neighborhood Association in Republic, Mo. This is a volunteer group (no rules imposed, no dues) focused on social revitalization in the subdivisions of Moonlight Meadows, Rankin Acres, Stoney Creek Estates, Century Place, and Iron Gate in Republic. These are the subdivisions that adjoin Owen Park.

This new association is a “pilot project” right now with funding from University of Missouri Extension and the Greene County Commission. The hope is that additional neighborhood associations will be created across Republic to organize neighborhood events, address concerns, social revitalization, and improve communication with the city.

This approach is not unique to Republic. Hundreds of communities across the United States (including Springfield) have begun creating neighborhood associations.

Based on what other neighborhoods around the country have been able to organize, possible future Owen Park Neighborhood Association events could include:

  • Annual neighborhood picnic in the park.
  • Neighborhood Watch (in partnership with Republic police).
  • Neighborhood Art Show (hosted in a garage, showcasing art created by residents).
  • Ping pong league (let me know if you have a ping pong table to add to our “circuit”).
  • I Love America Kids Parade (2023 will be the third year).
  • Missouri Good Neighbor Week events (Sept. 28-Oct. 4).
  • Advocate for park improvements like a pavilion and additional lighting.
  • Neighborhood book study or a Hopeful Neighborhood class.
  • Walking group at the park.
  • Monthly guest speaker or program at the park or in a neighborhood garage.
  • Group project like creation of a free Neighborhood Library.
  • Pop-up bakery or other food vendors for special events at the park.
  • Outdoor game festival (corn hole, giant Jenga, etc).
  • Yard of the month recognition.
  • Neighborhood garage sale day.
  • Chalk art festival (inspiration drawings and quotes on driveways or sidewalks).
  • Service project like cleaning a yard or neighborhood food drive for People Helping People.

These events will need your gifts and talents and volunteers. If you would like to volunteer your talents to host or create an event, or if you would like to represent your neighborhood on a working board, please contact me directly email. I would prefer to have two people on the board from each of the member subdivisions.
