A “neighborly” business goes beyond providing goods or services — it builds trust, uplifts others, and contributes to the social and economic wellbeing of its surroundings.

1. Neighborhood Engagement & Support: Actively participates in community events, initiatives, or partnerships.

2. Ethical and Responsible Practices: Conducts business with honesty, transparency, and fairness.

3. Support for Local Economy: Prioritizes hiring local employees and working with local vendors or artisans; Acts as a mentor or resource for nearby small businesses or startups.

4. Kindness in Daily Interactions: Goes “above and beyond” to help customers and community members; Serves as a “third space” if appropriate.

5. Disaster or Crisis Response: Stepped up during local crises to support the community; Offered flexible services or support during tough times.

6. Longevity and Consistency: Has demonstrated sustained commitment to being neighborly over time (not just for PR or awards).

7. Nominations and Testimonials: Receives strong community nominations or testimonials highlighting their neighborly impact; Stories or examples of going “the extra mile” are a key part of the evaluation.
