Events to Begin Your Neighboring in Republic

If your goal is to become a better neighbor in 2023 or if you want to develop more community connectedness, some opportunities are set for Feb. 1.

Jennifer Prophete, director of The Hopeful Neighborhood Project in St. Louis, will be in town to lead a couple of events in Republic on Feb. 1.

I am also leading a six-week small group study that begins Feb. 4 in Republic that is worth your consideration.

These events are intended to kick off neighboring efforts in and around Republic, but it will only have an impact if we have you in attendance!

LIBRARY EVENT

Love Your Neighborhood Workshops are being offered at 3 p.m. and again at 5 p.m. on Feb. 1 at the Republic branch library, 921 N Lindsey Ave.

These workshops are open to the public, and materials are provided free of charge. We ask that you register with the Republic library or on the MU Extension website at http://extension.missouri.edu.

Love Your Neighborhood Workshops are events designed to help you spread neighborly love and kindness where you live.

We will provide materials to create notecards to share with neighbors for Valentine’s Day while we discuss neighborly topics!

NEIGHBORHOOD LAB

We also have a “neighborhood lab” planned for the new Owen Park Neighborhood Association (made up of neighborhoods near Owen Park).

This event begins at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 1 at the Brookline Fire District building at  2655 E Hines St., Republic.

This lab is open to residents of the new Owen Park Neighborhood Association. We have seats for 20, and dinner will be provided. Plus, attendees will play a role in the future of this neighborhood.

You MUST register for the neighborhood lab in advance online at https://extension.missouri.edu.

SMALL GROUP STUDY

Beginning on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 8:30 a.m. and running for six weeks is the “The Love Where You Live” small group experience. Each class session lasts one hour and is open to anyone living anywhere, not just Republic.

The provided material takes you through five phases spread across six weeks.

In each phase, you’ll find tools, resources, activities, and ideas to help you rally together to make a difference in your neighborhood. You’ll kick off each phase with your small group, exploring the theme for the week and completing activities together.

Seating is limited for this free workshop. We will meet at the indoor tables at Kum and Go, 638 US-60, Republic.
