Springfield (Mo.) Neighborhoods Invited to Compete in 2026 SGF Kickball Championship
Friendly competition is coming to the ballfields this spring—and local neighborhoods are being called to step up, form teams, and claim bragging rights in the 2026 SGF Kickball Neighborhood Championship.
The annual event will take place on Sunday, April 19 at the Meador Park Baseball Fields (2600 S. Fremont Ave.), with registration beginning at 12:00 p.m. and games kicking off at 1:00 p.m. The tournament is free to participate in and open to ages 8 and up.
Organizers say this isn’t just about kickball—it’s about building stronger neighborhoods through shared experiences and a little healthy rivalry.
“We want to see neighborhoods show up, not just individuals,” said Ray Coleman, 2026 Tournament Coordinator. “There’s something powerful about playing alongside the people you live near. It turns streets into teams and neighbors into teammates.”
Teams can include 8–13 players, with at least five youth ages 8–13 on the field. Games will be played in a fast-paced format—either 35 minutes or 7 innings—keeping the energy high and the tournament moving.
One of the unique features of the SGF Kickball Championship is its neighborhood focus. While individuals are welcome to register and be placed on a team, organizers strongly encourage neighborhoods, blocks, and local groups to form their own teams and compete together.
“This is a chance for your neighborhood to show its spirit,” Coleman added. “Whether you’re playing for fun, pride, or just to meet more people on your street, this event is designed to bring neighbors together in a way that sticks long after the last game.”
In addition to the competition, the event emphasizes connection, fun, and accessibility. No prior experience is required, and the rules are simple enough for all ages to enjoy.
Participants must sign a waiver, and team registration closes on April 12. A rain-out date is scheduled for April 26.
Those interested in forming a team or signing up individually can register using the official event link. Coaches and volunteers are also invited to attend a Coaches & Volunteers Potluck Meeting on Sunday, April 12 at 5:00 p.m. at Resurrection Church (545 S. Broadway) to help prepare for tournament day.
“At the end of the day, this is about more than who wins,” said Coleman. “It’s about creating moments where neighbors laugh, compete, and connect. That’s what builds community.”
