Simple Plan to Reach Neighbors of Ridgecrest Sept. 28.

We have a simple neighboring outreach project planned for Sept. 28 to reach the immediate neighbors of Ridgecrest and all that is missing is you!

Did you know that Ridgecrest Baptist Church has 46 neighbors?

Did you also know that National Good Neighbor Day is Wednesday, Sept. 28?

For the first time, we are going to do a neighbor outreach on behalf of the church, and here is the plan (feedback still accepted):

I invite deacon wives to prepare baked goods and deliver them to the church welcome desk no later than 1 p.m. on Sept. 28. These baked items will be cut and divided among 46 boxes (1 box per neighbor) for variety.

  1. We will need an assembly team to assemble the boxes in the afternoon of Sept. 28. Work begins at 1:30 (and it may include a trip to the grocery store if we are short on baked items).
  2. For deacons making deliveries, I will have Missouri Good Neighbor Week t-shirts available for you to wear if you would like them.
  3. We need a team of two that can make deliveries starting at 2:30 p.m. to the businesses that adjoin our church. (This includes non-food service businesses across Republic Road).
  4. Each delivery team will have a box of goodies, a letter from the church about the importance of neighbors.
  5. Deliveries to adjoining residents will begin at 6:30 for those deacons who are available to help. Many hands make light work.

The goal of these deliveries is to listen, show kindness and extend a no-strings-attached greeting from the church. If, during the course of wishing them a happy good neighbor day, you feel the Holy Spirit prompt you I think praying with a neighbor is appropriate too. Especially if they express a need to you.

Kelsey Klier and I have tossed around a lot of ideas for at least 9 months about how we could begin a process of reaching out to the neighbors of Ridgecrest. This is the start of that effort and something that I hope becomes a tradition.

I am of course looking for volunteers. Reach David Burton at burtond@missouri.edu or 417-848-3442.
