TLC Properties Celebrates Good Neighbor Month and Missouri Good Neighbor Week

At TLC Properties, community is more than just a word—it’s a way of life. This September, TLC is joining Missourians across the state in celebrating Missouri Good Neighbor Week (September 28–October 4), but they’re taking it a step further by making the celebration last all month long. With creative activities, inspiring recognitions, and simple acts of kindness, TLC Properties is showing residents that neighbors truly are the heart of a thriving community.

We’re huge proponents of the Good Neighbor Week initiative—so much so that we’ve decided to celebrate with our residents all month long,” said Grace Tamburro, Creative Brand Manager for TLC Properties. “We’re really looking forward to seeing the fruits of this initiative in our community and are excited to share more about how our residents engaged as the month comes to a close.

Building Connection Through Pledges and Recognition

One of TLC’s most visible initiatives this year is the Good Neighbor Pledge. With a goal of collecting 1,000 signed pledges across its 2,500-unit portfolio, TLC is encouraging residents to commit to everyday acts of kindness—like waving hello, brightening someone’s day, and offering small acts of care. These pledges will be displayed on walls and windows throughout the communities, creating both inspiration and accountability.

Another highlight is the Neighbor of the Week program. Every property will recognize outstanding neighbors by nominating and celebrating residents who embody the spirit of connection. Each week, these stories are shared across TLC’s network of communities. Here are a few examples from the first week of September:

Jonathan & Sarah, Verandas - Springfield, MO “These two walk the property daily with their 2 dogs, always greeting others with a smile and a wave. They’re kind and thoughtful with their words and actions, positive energy and attitude that leaves you smiling as well!”

Ron & Doris, Heritage - Springfield, MO “He always greets me in the hallways with a smile and says, “Hey sis, how are you doing?” He enjoys making conversation and engaging with fellow neighbors. His wife, Doris, is also very sweet and always has a smile on her face. They both brighten my day!”

Kimberly, Martin Riley - Springfield, MO “You can tell she really loves this community by how well she takes care of it, always lending a hand to make sure it’s a great, safe place to live for everyone!”

Alicia, Monarch - Springfield, MO “She went out of her way to help me when I needed it the most. She checked on me every day, ensuring I had everything I needed. She walked my dog, brought me fresh ground coffee. She even rode the elevator to make sure I wasn’t alone. I’m very honored to call her my friend!!

At the end of the month, every nominee will be entered into a drawing for Neighbor of the Month and the chance to win a $100 Visa gift card. According to Grace, the initiative has already generated excitement: “It was so heartwarming to put together the stories from our Neighbor of the Week nominations and makes me even more excited for the following weeks as we gain more traction."

Celebrating Good Neighbor Week in Creative Ways

When Missouri Good Neighbor Week arrives, TLC will celebrate in fun, community-centered fashion. Residents can look forward to a sweet surprise as leasing teams deliver donut holes from St. George’s Donuts to every community—a simple act designed to brighten mornings and spark smiles. In addition, TLC will host Chalk the Walk, inviting residents and staff to fill sidewalks with colorful, encouraging messages and drawings that make their neighborhoods more welcoming for everyone.

All of these efforts are supported by a month-long email and social media campaign encouraging residents to take part in TLC’s on-site activities while also connecting with the broader statewide effort at MissouriGoodNeighborWeek.com. With over 3,500 residents receiving TLC’s campaign emails—and an impressive 70% open rate—this celebration of kindness and connection is already making a powerful impact.

A Month of Neighboring, A Legacy of Belonging

TLC Properties manages 16 apartment communities across Missouri and Kansas, but during September, those communities feel like one large neighborhood. From donut deliveries and chalk art to pledges and recognition programs, every initiative reinforces TLC’s belief that neighbors matter. These efforts echo the research-backed truth that communities thrive when residents feel connected, known, and valued.

As Grace summed up, “Here’s to having a successful Good Neighbor Month!
